You may have heard of Dr. Linus Pauling, who has twice won the Nobel Prize. He says, "It is, of course, astonishing that anyone would contend that a substance might be helpful to you no matter what disease you are suffering from. Nevertheless, the evidence is strong that vitamin C is such a substance. Vitamin C is not a wonder drug, a drug that cures a particular disease. It is instead a substance that participates in almost all of the chemical reaction that take place in our body, and is required for many of them."
Without a doubt, Vitamin C is the single most important nutrient to aid in recovery of a wide range of health problems.
Almost all animals other than man manufacture their own vitamin C in their liver. The exceptions are the guinea pig, the fruit-eating bat, the chimpanzees, and the duck-billed platypus! Consider now, based on a pound-to-pound basis, how much vitamin C a human would need if we made the amount that a dog, cow or pig makes? According to Dr. Irwin Stone, noted researcher on vitamin C, we would make 3,750 mg. per day, unless we were under stress, then we would make a lot more!
It is always ascorbic acid. Vitamin C complex is what is found in plants, and associated with Rutin, Hesperidin, and bioflavonoids. Each member of this complex makes its own contribution to our good health. In animals, it is manufactured in the liver, then the liver, utilizing four different enzymes, removes four hydrogen ion from the glucose and thus creates ascorbic acid.
Humans lack the enzyme (L-gulonlactone oxadase) and cannot manufacture ascorbic acid. We must obtain it from our food. Yet, to obtain the larger amounts shown to be optimum by Dr. Stone, we would have to be eating oranges all day long! We are talking here, of food-level dosages, rather than just a "little vitamin C", and that would create a new problem, because ascorbic acid has a ph value of 2.5, very acid. However, this acid creates a hydrogen ion that binds with metal and forms a "salt." The salts are called ascorbates. They have a ph of 7.8, very nuetral. Much more likely to be properly absorbed rather than be wasted by the kidneys.
Vitamin C is truly a miracle worker! It is bacteriocidal, detoxifies, stabilizes allergic responses, calms inflammation, has been known to reverse glaucoma and cataracts, heals ulcers, helps prevent colds and flu, improves cancer recovery, lowers cholesterol, helps the gall bladder, just to name a few. I can attest to the prevention of colds and flu, neither of which I have had in fourteen years on just 1/2 teaspoon a day of Ascorba-Min, Vitality-LifeChoices' ascorbate form of vitamin C "married" to ten minerals for easy assimilation. It is in power form, easy to mix with your juice. I personally think it is the best C product on the market.
In larger doses, Vitamin C has a laxative effect. When you use a product such as Ascorba-min you use to to bowel tolerance. No more constipation!
Even in massive does, vitamin C is described in medical literature as "virtually nontoxic." A slightly rounded teaspoon full of Ascorba-Min provides approximately 3,000 mgs. The taste is nuetral, mixes easily in juice, or even in plain water! Here are the ingredients of one teaspoon of Ascorba-Min:
Vitamin C.........................3,000 mgs.
Lemon Bioflavonoids.......... 500 mgs.
Rose Hips......................... 338 mgs.
Acerola Cherry................... 188 mgs.
Rutin............................... 50 mgs.
Hesperidin......................... 25 mgs.
Niacinamide..................... 53 mgs.
Calcium............................. 300 mgs.
Potassium.......................... 265 mgs.
Magnesium........................ 160 mgs.
Zinc.................................. 5 mgs.
Manganese........................ 2.5 mgs.
Copper.............................. 100 mcgs.
Molybdenium...................... 50 mcgs.
Vanadium.......................... 10 mcgs.
Chromium.......................... 5 mcgs.
These trace minerals, although needed in very small amounts, are still necessary to proper bodily function, and they are not always available in our foods today.
