Oh My, Oh My, It's Carrot Pie!
Harry Hare By Patricia Krenik
Sneaky Pete hopped up the street enjoying the spring weather. With a single bound he turned around, and hid inside some heather.
"I do declare the day is fair, and someone's baking, too. Oh my, oh my, it's Carrot Pie, my favorite thing to chew!"
While Peter stayed the pies were made and set upon the sill. "The cooling air," said Mama Hare, "Will help the pies to chill."
Inside the house was Benny Mouse, a friend of Harry Hare's. The two did play 'most half the day, while Mama baked her wares.

"I'll sell my pies for a surprise to give to my son Harry. There's Carrot Pie and Apple Pie, and even one of Cherry!"
She turned around and then she found two pies were on the sill. And down the street she spotted Pete hurrying up a hill.
"Harry Hare and Benny Mouse! Come here on the fly. Sneaky Pete that awful cheat has seized my Carrot Pie!"
"Don't worry Mom," said Harry Hare, "We'll fast catch up with Pete." And Harry sped with Benny Mouse a long way down the street.
Across the hill and over a fill they followed Peter's tracks which blazed a trail to a cottontail named Susie Sugar-Sacks.
"It's Susie's house," exclaimed the Mouse, "and Susie's folks aren't there. Their car is gone so let's go on to view the sneaky pair."
Harry Hare soon spied the pair setting up the table. Then Benny Mouse ran 'round the house as fast as he was able.
Sneaky Pete and Susie Sweet were sitting down to dine, upon the fare that Mama Hare had baked so very fine.
Thump bump bang! Rattley-clang! Susie screamed, "What's
that?" They fled the room expecting doom, afraid it was the CAT.
Harry Hare, who saw the pair, was standing very still. Then in a flash he upped the sash and climbed across the sill.
While Benny Mouse around the house went rattley-clang bang bang, the Carrot Pie was carried high and happy Harry sang,
"Ho, ho, Pete, you sneaky cheat, you thought it was the CAT. It's mouse and I, I've got the pie, so how do you like that?"
Sudden blur of rabbit fur and gone was Harry Hare, while Benny Mouse banged on the house to give another scare.
At Mama Hare's was Brian Bear who came to buy the pies. "I'll take the two, but I need three to fill my larger size."
"Do not despair," cried Harry Hare and ran into the house. "Never fear, Ben is here," joked the little mouse.
"Brian Bear," spoke Mrs. Hare, "You shall eat your fill. The boys have found the Carrot Pie--I'll add it to your bill."
"Carrot Pie and Apple Pie, and even one of Cherry! I do declare," said Brian Bear, "This treat make me feel merry!"
Without a care Brian Bear toted home his pies, while Mama Hare went to the fair to get her son's surprise.
She brought it back inside a sack, then wrapped it up in paper. Something, too, for Benny Mouse for helping with the caper.
"A roller skate! And look, a mate! For fun they can't be beat...Oh Ben and I, how fast we'll fly with skates on all four feet!"
